We designed and built this project in consultation with the owners, who wanted a unique home using local materials, and on a budget.

We partnered with our favorite local mill (VlyBrook.com), which provided the framing and siding materials from locally harvested logs. They milled the paneling, decking, stairs and trim details to our specifications from logs which had to be harvested on site to provide area for the build and infrastructure.

The home features 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in 1500sf. The 200sf basement houses the laundry, mechanical room and flex space, and there is ~450sf of covered porches. The covered area which extends the living room has a clear roof for an airy, open feel. We installed in-floor radiant as well as a heat pump for heat and AC. The whitewashed oak barrel-vaulted cathedral ceiling is 14’ high. The random width siding, installed on a rain screen, is an original ANVO design. It is purposefully left unpainted and will develop a silvery grey patina with age.

This project was a great opportunity to utilize local materials in creative ways.

We built this expansion based on a basic set of architectural plans. The design and finish decisions were coordinated in consultation with the clients.

The living room/music room above the one-car garage attaches to the existing house via a three-season room off the kitchen on one side, and by way of the laundry & renovated bathroom on the other. The deck is accessible from the three season room. Exterior finishes matched the house, using “hardi” siding for longevity. The main space was intended for use as a drum studio and has several layers of acoustical insulation to avoid disturbing the neighbors, or family in the main part of the house.

Before I began contracting in earnest, I had built a series of sculptures for the owner of this impressive studio. He called me to ask if I knew anyone who could help move the project along more quickly. By that time I had formed ANVO and my crew was able to assist his contractor for a bit. We helped to frame, sheathe, side and panel the studio, as well as install the windows.

Farmhouse renovation, interior and exterior, by a local architect and long-time client. (https://www.facebook.com/TURU.ILLGEN.ARCHITECT/) . This was an earlier project and unfortunately I didn’t document it as thoroughly as I should have.

We stripped it back to the studs and sheathing. Sills and sheathing were replaced where necessary, and French drains added strategically to prevent water from pouring into the old stone basement walls. The interior walls were reorganized and flooring was added and/or refinished. All windows were re-framed and replaced. All new insulation, siding, and interior finishes. New kitchen and baths. The old rotten porch was rebuilt.

We rebuilt a beloved diving dock for long-time clients. The old dock had fallen into disrepair and become dangerous. We raised the new one a bit higher to keep the wood dry and used black locust for local sourced longevity. Second floor dormer expansion, with KWS Architecture. https://www.kwsarchitecture.com/

We built a new dormer with large windows for an expanded view of the Mohonk cliffs. We changed the soffit detail and roof insulation. We supervised the installation of the new roof (installed by a subcontractor - ANVO is not a roofing contractor). The bedrooms and bathroom were updated with new flooring and drywall returns throughout. It turned out great, but unfortunately I did not properly document this project.
